the voice of the Kansas State Troopers Association

From current KSTA President Bryan Clark:

"The legislative season can often be met with dread or anxiety as most of us don’t have a firm grasp on how the government works inside the statehouse doors.  If you take the time to learn, there is a process and regardless of how big or how small the issue may be, it takes time and some push to get it through.  Out of necessity, our voice and footprint as an association has grown within the statehouse as we advocate for our members. We became a presence as we tried to make improvements to our working conditions. During the 2024 season, we worked with our administration in these developments.  Not only are we working together on your behalf, we are working on things that would improve our state and our profession.  Each legislative season, we prioritize securing better benefits for our members.  Pay is one of those benefits that we will address every year among other necessary issues. Nothing is guaranteed until it’s signed, but we are confident our issues will get a strong look with the relationships and trust we have built."

While KSTA leaders are often at the statehouse advocating for our members, the KSTA also has a full-time lobbyist to stay on top of issues being discussed in the statehouse. If you want to get involved in other ways, see the information below.

HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED?

1.  Meet with your legislator.

If you do not know who your legislator is, go to : http://www.kslegislature.org. Or search by your address at pluralpolicy.com.

You can find a link on the left side of the page called "Find Your Legislator."

Once you find your legislator, click on the legislator’s name and you will be taken to a screen that includes both the District and the State offices for the legislator. When you contact the legislator’s office, the staff will let you know when the legislator will be in each office and you can schedule a meeting with the legislator.  Legislators love to meet their constituents.  You can offer to help the legislator with any KSTA/trooper-related issues.

To find the full text of bills, as well as to find the Current Status of bills, go to: http://www.kslegislature.org
