The Kansas Highway Patrol is a law enforcement agency dedicated to provide Service, Courtesy, and Protection, which was first established when the agency was formed in 1937. The Patrol’s Kansas State Troopers, Capitol Police Officers, Motor Carrier Inspectors and civilian personnel are devoted to improving the quality of life for citizens and travelers in Kansas through spirited and dedicated service, which was laid in place by our predecessors over the past 80+ years. There are more than 800 members of the Patrol. Each of the Kansas Highway Patrol’s law enforcement officers are highly trained in their skills. The Patrol’s specialty units are on hand to assist other agencies across the state with tasks such as motor carrier enforcement, aircraft services and Police Service Dog calls.The Patrol prides itself in the work we do every day on the highways and within our communities. EXPLORING A CAREER WITH KHPCADET LAW PROGRAM FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTSGain real experience as a Kansas law enforcement officer while still in high school. The Cadet Law Enforcement Academy, co-sponsored by the Kansas American Legion, Auxiliary and Kansas Highway Patrol, is held every summer at the Kansas Highway Patrol Training Academy in Salina, Kansas. The deadline to apply is MARCH 31. CLEA is not a recruitment device for law enforcement. Instead it offers high school juniors the opportunity to gain knowledge regarding training and responsibilities of all law enforcement officials. Upon graduation students should better understand, respect and appreciate law enforcement personnel at all levels. To qualify for the Academy, applicants must be High School Juniors and must have a “C+” average scholastically for Sophomore and first semester of their Junior year, and be physically able to participate in all activities. Qualified instructors from the Highway Patrol, KBI, FBI and other law enforcement agencies are used throughout the week of instruction.
KANSAS COLLEGIATE LAW ENFORCEMENT ACADEMYThe Collegiate Law Enforcement Academy offers college students an exciting and unique view into what it takes to become a Kansas State Trooper. This gives the student a behind the scenes look at a Trooper Trainee lifestyle or other careers within the Kansas Highway Patrol. During the academy, students, participate in a variety of scenario-based training sessions, including traffic stops, firearms, driving and defense tactics. Team building exercises and classroom training from certified instructors are a key component of this Academy. |
